The New Kingdom in Egyptian

The New Kingdom, began in 1570. With a knowledge of horses and

chariots, Egypt became a military power and ruled over neighboring

nations. Tebes, the royal capital, became the most magnificent

city in the world. It was a golden age of Egypt.

         In 1372, one pharaoh broke with Egyptian tradition

for a short time. When Amenhotep IV came to power, he

he moved the capital, changed name to Ikhnaton, and established

a monotheistic religion with Aton(sun) as the one god.This

was an attempt to break the enormous power of the priests of the other god. However, after Ikhnaton’s death, this new religion did
